A Love I Haven’t Met Yet
Sometimes I catch myself smiling when I think about you.
Not because I know who you are.
I don’t.
But because I know who God is.
People always say,
“Enjoy the honeymoon phase while it lasts.”
I’ve never really understood that.
Why would anyone say something like that?
As if one day we’ll stop looking at each other with wonder.
As if love is only meant to feel magical for a little while.
I don’t believe that.
I hope that even ten years from now, people will look at us and wonder,
“Are they still newly in love?”
And we’ll smile.
Because they’ll never know the secret.
It was never a honeymoon phase.
It was simply the way God taught us to love.
Sometimes I find myself daydreaming about the smallest moments.
Dancing barefoot in the kitchen while dinner is still on the stove because our favorite 90’s R&B song starts playing.
Opening the windows when it starts raining, putting on jazz, and slow dancing in the living room while the world outside becomes quiet.
Stealing little kisses in between cooking.
Laughing until we forget what we were even laughing about.
Looking into each other’s eyes for no reason at all…
just because we still can’t believe God brought us together.
Sometimes I wonder what you’re doing today.
Maybe you’re living an ordinary day.
Maybe you’re laughing with friends.
Maybe you’re reading your Bible.
Maybe you’re also praying for a love you haven’t found yet.
And somehow that makes me smile.
Because one day, these ordinary moments will become part of our story.
I can’t wait for the adventures.
For the spontaneous road trips.
For discovering places we’ve never been.
For finding little cafés that somehow become our place.
But somehow…
I think the moments I’ll love the most won’t be the extraordinary ones.
I think they’ll be the quiet ones.
Reading next to each other on the couch.
Not saying a single word.
Yet somehow feeling like we’re having the best conversation.
I can’t wait to come home to you.
To tell you every tiny little thing about my day.
Not because everything is important.
But because to you…
it will be.
I can’t wait to hear,
“Tell me everything.”
And to know you genuinely want to.
I can’t wait for slow mornings where we make breakfast together.
For evenings that somehow turn into midnight conversations.
For the ordinary days that become my favorite memories simply because I get to share them with you.
More than anything…
I can’t wait to build a home with you where God is our foundation.
A home where prayer is our first response instead of our last resort.
Where we open our Bibles in seasons of joy and in seasons of hardship.
Where God’s Word is part of our everyday life.
Where we remind each other of His promises.
Where we celebrate His faithfulness.
Where we always point each other back to Him.
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful.”
~ 1 Corinthians 13:4–5
I don’t want those words to simply be something we admire.
I want them to become the way we love.
I know life won’t always be easy.
I know there will be difficult seasons.
Days when we’re tired.
Moments when old wounds try to speak louder than truth.
But I hope we will always remember that we are on the same team.
That we will keep choosing each other.
Keep praying for each other.
Keep loving each other with grace.
And I hope that years from now…
people will still look at us and think,
“They must have just fallen in love.”
Not because we are pretending.
But because we never stopped seeing each other with wonder.
And if someone ever asks,
“How did you two find each other?”
I hope we will simply smile.
Because the answer has always been the same.
It was a match made in heaven.
Until then…
I’ll keep living the life God has given me.
I’ll keep growing.
I’ll keep trusting.
And I’ll keep looking forward to the day our stories finally meet.
Because somehow…
I already know what my heart will say when I finally meet you.
Not,
“Where have you been?”
But,
“There you are.”
And in that moment…
every prayer,
every lonely night,
every tear,
every season of waiting,
will become part of the story that brought me home.
To you.
To us.
To the ordinary love I’ve always dreamed of.
I can’t wait to love you.
But even more than that…
I can’t wait to watch God write the story we’ve both been praying for.
Amen.
